So we met up at the “Corner Cigar Bar” (that’s a link to their FaceBook page with info) on Orchard Lake Road at Pontiac Trail in West Bloomfield, around 5pm or so on Thursday the 29th. We’d never been there, so we didn’t know what to expect… But we had a pretty darned good time.

As it turns out, they really aren’t even officially open yet, per se.  Kevin, our on-the-spot server/bartender/manager was as helpful as could be, given that the accommodations are still being brought in and set up as the days progress.  They started serving customers pretty much from the day they got the plush sofas in, about a month or two ago, and they plan to have an official Grand Opening someday soon.

As far as food service goes, it appears as though they started-and-stopped a couple times on food service plans, and at the time of this writing they don’t have any food service at all.  However, nobody objected to us having a pizza ordered in from two doors down!  It was great old-school pizza….

Now we know that the new cigar laws are just stupid, crazy, and hardly-enforceable.  Even the establishment owners are having a hard time figuring out exactly what to do.  This is why I think I’m developing a new philosophy:  I’m going to start going to cigar-dedicated places, and buy a cigar for the evening ON THE SPOT, as well as the usual drinks (and food if possible).  Folks, they need your patronage to survive, and due to the new laws, that includes tobacco sales.  Then, buy their liquor.  And, *if* they are able to figure out how to serve food (or proxy it for you), ask them and buy it from/through them.  So stop by, spend some money, encourage them…

So we definitely plan to be back.  In fact, we all discussed doing our August gathering there as well…

So, we met at Tuesday April 27th, after work, at Roosevelt’s Billiards Bar and Grill at Orchard Lake and 12 Mile. A strange day to be sure; It was wonderful that Randy made it up to visit, Jeffery came along, we met Evan, and a nice handful of the regulars were there… But it also is sad that this was to be the last gathering at a regular establishment before the new tyrannical law went into effect…

Roosevelt’s was wonderful as usual, and we almost took the cigar ashtrays… with permission of course…

The next gathering? Who knows… I guess we need to wait and see how the law applies… how it is enforced… *where* it is enforced… etc…

Remember folks, now that your tyrannical Michigan government has eliminated the property rights of most Michigan business owners, this is one of the few remaining places where you’ll be able to enjoy a cigar, a bite, and a drink; and what an awesome place it is.

So, given that the economy is garbage, times are tough, and there’s not much to celebrate much of the time, I used this as an excuse to call for perhaps an unnecessary cigar and a likely undeserved drink in a potentially inappropriate celebration of this quite improbable occasion.

So we got together for “whatever this is” on Thursday the 24th at Roosevelt’s at 27843 Orchard Lake in Farmington Hills. It was nice to see Ken, especially since he just parted company with the company days before. It was nice to see Jason, and in his attempt to pick up *my* tab in a thankful gesture for some earlier stuff, he accidentally ended up thanking quite a few of us! Whoops, and thanks Jason.

Heck it was nice to see everyone in attendance: Ken M., Dana, Steve M., Bob P., Jeff B., Scott S., Ron B., Jeremy P., Dan, Ron’s buddy Steve, Barry H., and Barry’s cousins Josh and Justin.

So, we met up Thursday, January 22nd, at Roosevelt’s Billiards Bar and Grill, after work hours.  Same old deal, cigars, drinks (car bombs!), and lots of BS.  We had a great time, and great service (from all three waitresses).

So I passed it along to the group, and then on the 27th I hopped on my motorcycle and headed down to hang out with Randy and crew one last time. I met some of Randy’s extremely nice friends, and Barry showed up a little later as well. It was cloudy and chilly, but we sat out in the garage and had grilled deer bits and other snacks, and the cigars drinks, and conversation kept us toasty. The sun started to peek through the view out the garage door, as it was time for me to hop back on the bike and head out.
